Kings River Trust

Protected Properties:

We are honored to work with landowners who share our value of local farms, ranches, and riparian lands throughout the Kings River watershed. The projects listed as ‘closed’ have completed the process of conveying a conservation easement on their property with us. They remain the owners and managers of their property, we simply hold the easement on it and monitor their property every 1 to 5 years ensuring adherence to the terms of the easement. Those projects listed under ‘pending’ are in process of conveying an easement or we are looking for funding for their project. Until a project is closed we never share landowner information and even then, we respect a landowner’s right to remain private regarding their project.

All landowners should be aware that if they receive funding from a state or federal agency for their project then the easement and its details are, technically, public information.

Closed Projects:

McCahill Ranch where ag and habitat live in harmony

McCahill Ranch sits along the Kings River and boasts beautiful river frontage. The property owner, Roger McCahill, grazes cow-calf pairs and enjoys the ranch with his family and grandchildren. Forever, 20 acres of this rolling riverfront property will remain as it is today with an agricultural conservation easement placed on the property. This project was completed in collaboration with the landowner, Kings River Land Trust and with funding from CalTrans for mitigation of their HWY 180 project impacts. The property possesses significant high quality natural and established environmental habitat, including mature oak trees and Oak Savanna, watershed, riparian environment, wildlife and habitat, as well as agricultural resources and productivity, open space, and scenic values created by working landscapes. The preservation of these resource values will be achieved overtime through continued managed agricultural practices and stewardship activities.

A Legacy of Stewardship: A Landowner's Commitment to Conservation

Nestled in central Fresno County, CA, lies a parcel of land rich in history and natural beauty. Since 1956, this land has been cherished by the landowner’s family, who have nurtured it through the generations. Over time it has evolved into a place of biodiversity and agricultural productivity.

The 60-acre Davies Ranch, owned by Ellen Davies, boasts mature oak trees, Oak Savanna, watershed values, riparian environments, and abundant wildlife. It is a haven for native plants, fish, and wildlife, showcasing the delicate balance of nature and productivity.

Located just southeast of Sanger, the property enjoys a prime position in the Kings River about 6 miles from HWY 180. Its scenic beauty as a working landscape holds great importance not only for the landowner’s family but for the people of Fresno County and beyond. The conservation easement on this property was completed in collaboration with the landowner, Kings River Land Trust, and with funding from CalTrans for mitigation of their HWY 180 project impacts.

Presently, the property is home to cow-calf pairs, with a small portion of the land devoted to irrigated pasture for a herd of goats.

Through managed agricultural practices and stewardship activities, the landowner upholds a legacy of stewardship, ensuring that her property continues to thrive in perpetuity.
